Copyright & DMCA Policy

Effective August 26, 2026 · Version 2026-08-26

LibertyLink respects intellectual-property rights and responds to notices of alleged infringement under 17 U.S.C. § 512. This page explains how to report infringing content and how counter-notification works.

1. Designated Agent

LibertyLink has designated an agent to receive notifications of claimed infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Our designated-agent registration with the U.S. Copyright Office is identified internally as DMCA-1079361. A notice of claimed infringement may be submitted using the Report Abuse ("copyright") tool within LibertyLink or by contacting our designated agent at the address on file with the Copyright Office. This registration is an administrative filing only; it is not a "certification," a "safe-harbor certificate," a badge, or a guarantee that LibertyLink is immune from liability.

2. How to Submit a DMCA Notice

To report content you believe infringes copyright, use the "Report" button on the relevant listing, document, or message and select "copyright," or use the general Report Abuse page. A compliant notice should include the following, consistent with 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):

  • The physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
  • Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and its location on LibertyLink (such as a listing or document link) so we can locate it.
  • Your contact information, including your full name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

Incomplete notices may delay processing. We evaluate notices and, where appropriate, expeditiously remove or disable access to the identified material.

3. What Happens After a Notice

When we remove or disable access to material in response to a compliant notice, we make a reasonable effort to notify the affected user that the material was removed and provide information about how to submit a counter-notification. LibertyLink maintains internal records of each notice, the affected content, the removal action, user notification, counter-notifications, and any restoration.

4. Counter-Notification

If you believe your content was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification. A counter-notification should include:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the material that was removed and the location at which it appeared before removal.
  • A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  • Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal courts located in Virginia (or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which LibertyLink may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who submitted the original notice or that person's agent.

If we receive a compliant counter-notification and the original complainant does not bring a court action within the applicable period, LibertyLink may restore the material in appropriate circumstances. We reserve the right not to restore material that we determine is unlawful or that otherwise violates these Terms.

5. Repeat Infringers

In appropriate circumstances, LibertyLink will terminate the accounts of users determined to be repeat infringers, consistent with applicable law. We track infringing activity and account actions in our internal records.

6. Rules for Uploads

You may upload only content that you own or are authorized to share. You must not upload:

  • Pirated PDFs or unauthorized scans of textbooks, commercial outlines, or supplements.
  • Copied commercial outlines, model answers, or unauthorized answer keys.
  • Material that infringes another person's copyright or other intellectual-property rights.
  • Content that violates a professor's or school's policies regarding distribution of course materials.

If you are unsure whether you have the right to share something, do not upload it. Your own original outlines and notes are appropriate; wholesale copies of published materials are not.

7. Good-Faith Reporting

Reports of copyright infringement should be made in good faith. Knowingly false or misleading notices or counter-notices may result in action against the submitter and may give rise to liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

8. No Guarantee of Safe-Harbor Protection

Nothing on this page is a representation that LibertyLink is guaranteed safe-harbor protection under 17 U.S.C. § 512 or any other law. Safe-harbor eligibility depends on the specific facts and LibertyLink's actual conduct. This policy describes our process only.
