Terms of Service

Effective August 26, 2026 ยท Version 2026-08-26

These Terms govern your use of LibertyLink. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Overview and Acceptance

LibertyLink ("LibertyLink," "we," "us," or "our") is an independent, student-run study and collaboration platform for the Liberty University School of Law community. By registering, logging in, or otherwise using the service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post a new version with an updated effective date and, where appropriate, require renewed acceptance. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

LibertyLink is an independent, student-operated platform and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, approved by, or operated by Liberty University or Liberty University School of Law. References to the university and its name are for identification of the relevant community only and do not indicate any institutional relationship.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use LibertyLink. Registration is restricted to current Liberty University School of Law students and alumni using a verified @liberty.edu email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity under your account. You agree to notify us of any unauthorized use. New accounts are subject to administrative approval before full access is granted.

3. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use LibertyLink for any unlawful purpose or to violate any law, regulation, or third-party right.
  • Harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, or defame any person.
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation.
  • Post or transmit content that is unlawful, infringing, fraudulent, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Attempt to access another user's private data, accounts, drafts, messages, or transactions.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service, its servers, or its security measures.
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers, scripts) to access or collect data from the service.
  • Upload viruses, malware, or any other malicious code.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit access to the service without authorization.
  • Attempt to access, probe, or scan for vulnerabilities in the service or its systems without authorization.
  • Circumvent, disable, or otherwise tamper with security features, rate limits, or access controls.
  • Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download protected information, user data, or any private administrative or student-verification data.
  • Attempt to obtain, reconstruct, or enumerate any student-verification dataset or private administrative data.
  • Use automated means to create accounts or to access the service in a way that bypasses intended controls.
  • Interfere with or reduce the availability, integrity, or performance of the service for others.
  • Introduce or transmit viruses, malware, or any other malicious code.

4. User-Generated Content and Uploaded Outlines

You are solely responsible for content you post, upload, or transmit, including outlines, notes, comments, chat messages, reviews, and listings. You retain ownership of content you create. By posting content, you grant LibertyLink a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and process that content solely as reasonably necessary to operate and provide the service (including backup and internal search). We do not claim ownership of your outlines.

You represent that any content you upload is yours or that you have the rights to share it, and that it does not infringe any third party's intellectual property or privacy rights. See our Copyright Policy for takedown procedures.

We may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms or applicable law, and we may suspend or terminate accounts for serious or repeated violations. We are not obligated to monitor content but may do so.

5. Online Outline Editor, Comments, Forks, and Suggestions

The built-in outline editor lets you author and store outlines directly in the service. Drafts you save are private until you choose to publish them to the community library. You may highlight passages of other users' outlines to leave anchored comments, which are visible to other users. You may "fork" another user's published outline to create a private copy you can edit; forking does not modify the original. You may propose merging your edits back into the original by submitting a "suggestion," which the original author may accept or decline. By submitting a suggestion, you grant the original author permission to incorporate your contributed content into their outline.

You may import content from external documents (such as .docx files) into the editor and export your outlines to .docx. You are responsible for ensuring that any content you author, import, or propose does not infringe any third party's intellectual-property or other rights, including rights in any source document you import.

6. AI-Generated Content and Legal Information

LibertyLink may include AI-assisted features. Any output from AI features is provided for educational and informational purposes only, is not legal advice, and may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or fabricated. You must independently verify any case, statute, citation, quotation, rule, or authority. Use of the service does not create an attorney-client relationship. See our Legal Disclaimer for full details.

7. Marketplace Listings and Transactions

The textbook marketplace helps Liberty Law students connect to buy and sell textbooks. LibertyLink is a facilitator that connects buyers and sellers. We are not a party to any transaction and are not the seller of user-listed books. Full marketplace rules, seller responsibilities, and prohibited items are in our Marketplace Terms.

The marketplace is for physical textbooks only. Listings of digital textbooks, PDFs, scans, photocopies, electronic copies, or other non-physical items are prohibited. LibertyLink provides the platform through which users find and communicate with buyers and sellers; the individual user โ€” not LibertyLink โ€” is the seller of the physical textbook. LibertyLink does not own inventory, take title, or guarantee buyers, sellers, payment, delivery, condition, authenticity, or any transaction outcome.

By listing an item, a seller represents that:

  • they own or are authorized to sell the physical item;
  • the listing is materially accurate;
  • the item is lawful to sell;
  • the item is not stolen or counterfeit; and
  • they have the right to offer it.

The following listings are strictly prohibited:

  • PDFs, digital textbooks, e-books, or other electronic copies;
  • textbook scans or photocopied textbooks;
  • pirated or unauthorized digital materials;
  • counterfeit or stolen books;
  • unauthorized answer keys or copied commercial outlines and materials; and
  • any item that infringes a third party's intellectual-property or other rights.

8. Intellectual Property

LibertyLink, its name, logos, and software are owned by us or our licensors. Course, professor, and schedule information referenced on the site is the property of Liberty University and is referenced for identification only. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks or content except as necessary to use the service.

9. Copyright Complaints

We respect intellectual-property rights. To report infringing content, see our Copyright Policy and use the report-abuse tools within the service.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any content, schedule data, or AI output is accurate or reliable. To the fullest extent permitted by law, all warranties are disclaimed.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LibertyLink and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to the service, including any marketplace dispute, user representation or conduct, unauthorized account activity, cybersecurity incident, service interruption, third-party attack, or third-party conduct. Our aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the greater of any fees you paid us (the service is free, so this may be zero) or USD $100. This limitation applies even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations; in that event, they apply only to the extent permitted by law.

12. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless LibertyLink and its operators from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your violation of these Terms or any law or third-party right.

13. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause or notice, including for violations of these Terms or to protect the service or other users. You may delete your account at any time from Settings. Account deletion removes your profile and user-generated content as described in the Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to the Service and Terms

We may modify or discontinue features at any time. We may update these Terms as described in Section 1. Material changes may require renewed acceptance.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, to the extent permitted by law.

The parties will attempt to resolve disputes informally first. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the service may be resolved through binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and you and we waive any right to participate in a class action. If arbitration is not enforced, disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Virginia.

16. General

If any provision is held unenforceable, the remainder remains in effect. These Terms constitute the entire agreement regarding use of the service. Failure to enforce a right is not a waiver.

LibertyLink is an independent, student-operated platform and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, approved by, or operated by Liberty University or the Liberty University School of Law. These documents are provided for informational purposes and do not constitute legal advice. Questions about enforceability should be reviewed by a qualified attorney.
